Hyundai Genesis

At the beginning of 2008, Hyundai has taken a big step upward by presenting a luxury sedan - Genesis.
Its role models are no mistery - Mercedes E-class, BMW series 5 and Lexus GS are more than present in its looks … even in commercials.

Merc spirit is present at front, rear is BMW alike, interior is somewhat Lexus alike. Being a good copycat is not a bad concept at all.

It will be available at launch with a choice of 3.3 or 3.6-litre V6 engines; a new 4.6-litre V8 is due to join the range later in 2008. Each will drive via a six-speed, wide-ratio semi-automatic transmission with an overdrive sixth gear for quiet, efficient highway cruising.

Some of the comfort features:

  • Driver information system with 30GB hard disc drive and multimedia shuttle wheel controller for navigation, audio and telephony.
  • 17-speaker surround-sound audio by Lexicon with a 12-channel, 528W Logic 7 amplifier (The only other car with a Lexicon audio system is the Rolls Royce Phantom).
  • Smart cruise control that uses radar to maintain a safe driving distance.
  • Sports-tuned electronic air suspension that raises or lowers the ride height to optimise aerodynamics and improve road-holding at high speed.

Hyundai unveiled redesigned Genesis Coupe at Kangwon Festival, rest of the world will have to wait till January 2012 and Detroit.

Basic version is powered by 2l theta engine, delivering 65bhp more than before (total 275bhp), while the top model will have 3.8l GDI V6 engine with 350bhp. Top model reaches 60mph in 5,9s. Face lifted Genesis Coupe comes with 6 gear manual transmission, with 8 gears automatic as an extra option.

Recently announced Veloster is a compact coupe, long approx. 4,5m and it can accommodate 4 adults. Design is sporty, with some unusual, never before seen solutions. Most interesting are the doors - drivers side of the car has only one, but huge door, while the other side of the car has two normal doors.
